What this site collects, and what it does not
This notice explains how personal information is handled when you visit DeborahWebster.net or make an enquiry.
Who we are
This website, deborahwebster.net, is operated by Deborah Webster.
In this privacy notice, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Deborah Webster. Deborah Webster is responsible for deciding how and why personal information collected through this website is used.
Information we collect
When you make an enquiry, the form asks for your name, email address, whether your enquiry concerns speaking or another matter, and your message. Your organisation is optional. We also receive information you provide in subsequent correspondence.
When you visit, technical information such as your IP address, browser details, requested pages and request times may be processed by the services that deliver and protect the website.
Please provide only the information needed for your enquiry. Do not send sensitive personal information, confidential business documents or information about other people unless it is necessary and you are entitled to share it. We can agree an appropriate channel for confidential material.
How and why we use information
We use enquiry information to respond to you, discuss potential speaking engagements or other work, and manage resulting correspondence. Technical information is used to display the website, diagnose faults and prevent misuse. Relevant records may also be needed to meet legal obligations or establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
Where processing is necessary to take steps at your request before an agreement, perform an agreement or comply with a legal obligation, we rely on the applicable legal permission for that purpose. For other processing, we rely on consent where required or another ground permitted by the law that applies. Where legitimate interests are available under that law, these are responding to ordinary correspondence and operating and protecting the website, balanced against your rights.
We do not sell your personal information, use enquiry details for advertising profiling or make decisions about you solely through automated processing. The website does not currently offer a newsletter subscription.
Who receives information
Enquiries are handled by Deborah Webster. Hosting, email delivery and business email providers process information as needed to provide their services. The enquiry form does not save messages to a website database; successfully delivered enquiries form part of email correspondence.
Information may also be disclosed to professional advisers where needed for advice or a legal claim, or to authorities where disclosure is required by law. It is not shared with other businesses for their own marketing.
Cookies, fonts and external links
The website does not use advertising or analytics tools and does not set advertising or analytics cookies.
The website currently loads fonts from Google Fonts. Your browser connects to Google to retrieve them, disclosing technical information such as your IP address and request details. Google’s privacy information explains its handling of those requests.
Links to services such as LinkedIn, Amazon and Cambridge University Press take you to separate websites with their own privacy notices. Their practices are not covered by this notice. If we introduce optional tracking, we will update this notice and obtain consent where required before it is used.
International processing
Deborah Webster is based in the United Arab Emirates. Website and communications providers may process information in other countries. Applicable data-protection law governs any international transfers and the protections required for them. You can contact us to ask where information relating to you is processed and about the applicable transfer arrangements.
How long information is kept
We retain personal information only for as long as needed for the purpose for which it was collected. For enquiries, the relevant factors are whether the conversation is still active, whether it leads to an engagement, and whether records are needed for contractual, accounting, legal or dispute-resolution purposes.
Technical records are retained according to the operational and security needs of the relevant service. Records that are no longer needed should be deleted or anonymised; limited copies may remain in backups until those backups are replaced through their normal cycle. You can ask about the retention arrangements for information relating to you.
Protecting your information
Access to personal information is limited to the people and services that need it for the purposes described here. No website, email service or method of transmission can be guaranteed completely secure. Please contact us if you believe information sent through this website has been compromised.
Your rights
Depending on the law that applies, you may have rights to access your personal information, correct inaccurate information, request deletion, restrict or object to processing, or receive a portable copy. Where processing relies on your consent, you can withdraw it without affecting processing that was lawful before withdrawal.
These rights are subject to applicable conditions and exceptions. We may need proportionate information to confirm your identity before responding. We will respond within the period required by the applicable law and explain any lawful reason why a request cannot be fulfilled.
You may also complain to the data-protection authority with jurisdiction over your concern. You do not have to contact us first to exercise that right.
Contact us
For a privacy question or to exercise your rights, use the enquiry form and begin your message with “Privacy request”. If you already correspond with Deborah, you may also reply through that existing email conversation.
The form confirms when a message has been accepted for delivery. If it reports that delivery is unavailable or unsuccessful, your message has not been confirmed as received.
Changes to this notice
We will update this notice when our practices or relevant requirements change. The date above identifies the latest revision. Where required, we will bring material changes to your attention before using information for a new purpose.
