A budding entrepreneur wanted to create an investment company focused on Africa with a triple-bottom line.

We helped him define and shape the vision, as well as the values and behaviours he wanted to stand for and demonstrate.

We then measured some of the target investments against these principles. This proved to be the bigger challenge since some of the opportunities presented were not in alignment with what he espoused, although he was happy to justify it with the return they would bring.

Our responsibility was to show him the divergence from what he set out to be and do, which was in turn one of his key competitive advantages.

Using the value set and behaviours he had just set for himself, we challenged his thinking to come up with alternatives, holding the return as an additional benchmark to include, whilst not foregoing his other values.
